Photo
Editing It's new,
free, and online
Until now, if you wanted to
adjust a graphic for Sunday worship, you had a
limited number of photo editing choices. Most
had to be purchased, downloaded and installed on
your computer. If you used a
second computer in another location, and
didn't have the same software loaded, you were out
of luck. Now, there are a number of online alternatives
that are accessible on any computer that is connected to
the internet. Most of these online editors are
compatible with photo sharing and storage sites such as
MySpace, Flickr, and FaceBook.
Below, I've listed
a number of online photo editors which you may find
helpful in making images look their best when projected
during worship.

Editing your photos
online Some are simple; others
more sophisticated
Below is
a synopsis of web-based photo/image editors I've
tried. Test them yourself and see which ones
might fit into your workflow.

 http://fotoflexer.com
- Import photos from your computor or your
favorite photo site - Load multiple photos and
position each where you want
them - Apply separate special effects to
different photos on screen - Compatible: photobucket,
facebook, myspace, flickr,
picasa Summary: The workflow is easy
to follow and the controls are similar to those of
FlauntR and Picnik (both shown below) - click
a tab and use its special effects controls, click the
next tab and apply additional effects, and so on. There
are a multitude of basic enhancement controls along with
wild special effects and photo filters to choose
from. My opinion: So far, it's my
favorite.
Free. ***

 http://www.splashup.com
- Upload
photos from your computer - Resembles layout of
traditional desktop image editors - Familiar editing
tools in the left-hand tool box Summary: If you're familiar with
Photoshop, Photoshop Elements, Painter, or PhotoImpact,
you should feel right at home with the Splashup
interface. You're even able to work with
multiple graphic layers - a photo on
one, text on another, a second photo for
transparent special effects on another. My
opinion: Excellent ***

 http://www.flauntr.com
- Upload photos from your computer
- Compatible with facebook, Picasa, flickr, and more
web sites - Edit photos, add text, decorate
with frames and art
objects Summary: Top
bar leads you through the step-by-step editing
process; Right-hand bar contains lots of
easy-to-use controls and fun features; Finished work can
be saved to your desktop, your FlaunR album,
40 popular photo saving and storage sites, or
to a list of mobile devices. My
opinion: Good results and fun effects. Easy to
use although controls are limited.
Free. **
Picnik
 http://www.picnik.com/app#/home/welcome
- Upload photos from your computer or pic
sharing site - Follow steps from tab to tab to make
changes to your image - Features photo filters,
one-click fix, text, frames &
docorations Summary: Picnik is
similar to FlauntR and it compatible with flickr,
Picasa, facebook, myspace, photobucket, and
wesbhots. My opinion: Easty
to use, easy to find the controls for what you want to
change or add. Free. **

 https://www.photoshop.com/express/landing.html
- Import photos, change their appearance,
remove red eye Summary: From
Adobe, the maker of Photoshop and other profressional
industry standards, there's not much to Photoshop
Express. If you're away from home, church, or the office
and need to make a few quick basic changes to a photo,
you can accomplish it with PhotoShop Express. Adobe just
launched the site and it is still in beta (testing), so
I'll say no more until there's more to
say. |

Casualties of
War Honoring those in service

I've prepared
a set of slides that can be used to honor members of our
armed forces and their families. We sometimes forget the
sacrifice they make, the weeks and months families spend
separated by military service, the simple pleasure of
receiving a parcel from home. If we provide them nothing
else, we should at least remember to pray for them - for
the safety of those in service and for the families of
those who have died.
These slides are free and
can be loaded by clicking the links in in the long
column to the left under "Free Slides." |

The Blog
IS Sort of
The visualworship blog
is launching in phases this
week. At least it's up and live, sort of. That's quite
an endorsement, isn't it! Seriously, folks, I'm
determined to make the blog a daily source of help for
your media ministry, as well as, a way for you and I to
toss around ideas and share resources. You'll find the
blog at http://www.visualworship.typepad.com/visualworship.
