Peace through
the Storms
We've all
experienced storms. Some people react to the
energy and fury of storms with
exhilaration, but
most folks suffer them with some trepidation. I
fit that latter category. Trepidation is all
I get out of storms, except for the relief I feel
once the worst has passed. I've been overtaken by
storms while driving that have whipped and lashed
my car and jostled me across highway lanes. The
thick rain bands made it impossible to see
where I was going or what was around me.
There seemed to be no safe haven as I felt
completely out of control.
The storms we
face in life can be just
as disorienting. Over the past few
years, I suffered the loss of loved ones, my
wife's stroke, and financial setbacks. These
have been dark times when I couldn't find
light in any direction, no way of quick
escape. That's the way it appeared in the natural
world, at least. But spiritually, I knew
there was a source of strength to cling to. There
was a light to navigate me through the
darkness, a hand to pull me to safety.
Whether
deliverance is immediate or gradual in
coming, God will faithfully guide us
through our storms. "He makes the storm into
calm, so that the waves are at peace."
